Someone elsewhere pointed this out. Colbert's show has a youtube channel where they show clips from the show. It has 9.96 million subscribers, like the first 12 episodes showing on my YT page have over 1 million views, several over 2 million. Presumably the ad revenue etc from YT goes to CBS somehow or another?

The episode where he announced they were getting rid of the show has over 4 million views.

I read in another online forum that allegedly Jeff Probst the host of Survivor is talking about retiring now

I'm sure there's some level of Hollywood accounting here, but ... ouch.

Can we at least agree that if Kimmel's show goes next there's more to it than money given what was said by you know who on his social media?

The CNN story has similar information. There's a video on youtube about it that refers to what I mentioned yesterday and CNN's article alludes to it too, CBS makes money off the youtube channel that shows the late show videos, it's just not clear how much because of the way Youtube works, they don't have some public list that shows how much.

Ironically in that CNN bit on YT it says it's less "effective" because of the timeliness aspect, Colbert talks about current events, people don't then watch a clip of a few weeks old show because it's not current, which is completely untrue people absolutely do go back and watch them.

I can believe they weren't making a mint on the show but it's difficult for me to guess how much they made or lost without knowing the youtube(and others) component

I am an absolute nobody...but they would have to pay me at least 100k to get me to come on the show.
Imagine how much they had to pay a "somebody"
Trust me… nobody would even let you on that show if you paid them 100K.

Why not? He's 63 and Survivor season 49 debuts tonight. Maybe do the 50th season and ride off into the sunset or do something else that he's wanted to do - write, host another show of his own, etc.

Haven’t watched any late night show in 20+ years. They all suck

I actually enjoy most of the late night shows. My problem for the past several years is there is so much competition and so little time for all the stuff I want to watch. Even if I DVR it. For me it's come down to bandwidth between a family, high demanding job, and entertainment.
