CLEVELAND — As expected, "Spida" will swing into Game 5 despite injury.
Cavaliers All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is available to face the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 on Tuesday, May 13, the Cavs announced about a half hour before the elimination game's scheduled tipoff of 7 p.m. at Rocket Arena.
Mitchell had been listed on the injury report as questionable to play with a sprained left ankle, though all signs pointed toward him being active.
A recent indication became public knowledge when Mitchell participated in shootaround on the morning of May 13 at Cleveland Clinic Courts in Independence. Another good sign for the Cavs emerged when the customary "#LetEmKnow" tweet surfaced on Mitchell's X account at 4:01 p.m. The tweet is almost always sent before a game in which Mitchell plays.
With the top-seeded Cavs trailing the fourth-seeded Pacers 3-1 in the best-of-seven, second-round playoff series, Mitchell will try to help Cleveland keep its season alive. The ankle injury sidelined him for the second half of Cleveland's 129-109 Game 4 loss May 11 in Indianapolis.
Mitchell has been pushing through a calf strain during the playoffs. Through eight postseason games this year, Mitchell is averaging 28.9 points on 46.2% shooting from the field (33.8% on 3-pointers), 4.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 31.3 minutes.
In the first half of the Cavs' blowout loss to the Pacers in Game 4 , Mitchell scored 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the field (1 of 5 on 3-pointers) and added one rebound, one steal and one blocked shot in 20 minutes. He excelled in the first three games of the series, scoring 33 points in Game 1, 48 in Game 2 and 43 in Game 3.
As long as Mitchell plays in Game 5, Cavs All-Star guard Darius Garland said at shootaround he expects to see "the Spida that we've been seeing all playoffs."
