Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested June 13 in Houston and charged with a misdemeanor of carrying an unlawful weapon, according to Harris County court records.

Harden was taken into custody at 3:41 a.m. CT Saturday when a handgun was seen on the seat of a car that the Cavs star owns, courts records show.

He was booked at 4:57 a.m. CT and was later released after paying a $100 bond.

According to ESPN, Harden will potentially be a free agent at the end of the month. He has a $42 million player option decision that has to be made by June 29 with $13.3 million guaranteed. It’s been said that he’s expected to opt out of his current contract so that he can sign a new multi-year deal with the Cavaliers.

Harden landed in Cleveland back in February after playing with the Los Angeles Clippers since November of the 2023-24 season. He helped the Cavs reach the Eastern Conference Finals before they were swept by the New York Knicks.
