Catholic tops six Knoxville area high schools among 25 best in Tennessee

Knoxville Catholic was named as the best high school for student-athletes in the Knoxville area.

The survey, conducted by Niche, was analysis of key statistics and reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Rankings were also based on the number of state championships, student participation in athletics, and the number of sports offered at the school.

The USA TODAY ranked the Top 25 schools in Tennessee with six Knoxville schools included in that list. Here are the Knoxville area's rankings.

1. Knoxville Catholic​


State ranking: No. 7

Total number of sports: 26

The Irish had Division II-AA state tournament appearances in boys basketball, cross country, football, girls golf, boys lacrosse, boys soccer, softball, girls tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling.

2. Alcoa​


State ranking: No. 15

Total number of sports: 22

Even after moving up in TSSAA classifications, the Tornadoes brought back state titles in boys basketball (Class 3A), football (4A) and softball (3A).

3. Maryville​


State ranking: No. 16

Total number of sports: 17

Maryville had an individual state champion in girls track and had finished state runners-up in softball.

4. Greeneville​


State ranking: No. 20

Total number of sports: 20

Greeneville's Trey Bailey captured individual state titles in boys cross country and boys track and field while the school's girls golf team claimed the 2025 Class A state title.

5. Webb​


State ranking: No. 22

Total number of sports: 20

The Webb girls basketball, cross country and track and field teams won repeat state championships during the 2025-26 season.

6. Farragut​


State ranking: No. 24

Total number of sports: 17

Farragut set a TSSAA record with its fifth straight Class 4A state championship in baseball and has 15 state titles in program history.
