Carlo Ancelotti hints at change in system for Real Madrid

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has hinted at plans to make use of an alternate playing system over the final weeks of the campaign.

Real, of course, are fresh off securing a timely return to winning ways on Sunday.

After being sent packing from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal in midweek, Los Blancos welcomed Athletic Club to Spain’s capital, for a La Liga clash.

And when all was said and done, the day’s hosts secured all three points, courtesy of a Federico Valverde injury-time stunner.

With Kylian Mbappé suspended for the clash, Real Madrid returned to a 4-4-2 system against Athletic, with the pairing of Rodrygo and Vinícius Jr. leading the line.

And boss Carlo Ancelotti, evidently, liked what he saw…

Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, the Italian, in fact, went as far as to admit:

“My favourite system is the 4-4-2. We defend better, it’s the best system to defend.”
