Liverpool 2 Leeds United 4
Leeds United came from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Liverpool 4-2 at Soldier Field in Chicago as Andoni Iraola’s side were undone by sloppy defending in the second period.
Liverpool’s dominant first-half display was underlined by goals from Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz. However, Daniel Farke’s men replied with four strikes in 25 second-half minutes through Sean Longstaff, Brenden Aaronson and two alarmingly similar goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Defender Chambers, 22, who spent last season on loan at Charlton Athletic, opened the scoring on seven minutes, pouncing on a Dominik Szoboszlai corner which had been flicked on at the near post by Milos Kerkez.
Jeremie Frimpong, serviced by a wonderfully flighted cross-field ball by Trey Nyoni, then set up Wirtz to make it 2-0 five minutes before the break, but on the hour Leeds began their recovery when Aaronson scored following a mistake by Kerkez – who gave up possession to Ethan Ampadu in his own half.
Ampadu’s long throw was flicked on to Calvert-Lewin to level the score, then minutes later Curtis Jones’s carelessness allowed Longstaff in to put Leeds in front.
And it was a familiar story five minutes from time when Ampadu’s throw again prompted chaos in Liverpool’s back line, allowing Calvert-Lewin to steal in front of Jones and seal victory.
Liverpool return to Anfield for friendlies against Monaco and Como before they begin their Premier League season away at Newcastle United later this month.
Leeds have matches against RB Leipzig, Manchester United and Augsburg their league campaign gets under way at Nottingham Forest.

This is ridiculous from Leeds.

It is a lovely team goal from Liverpool to take them 2-0 up around five minutes before half-time. Nyoni’s flat ball out to the right side of the box is volleyed first time back across the box by Frimpong. Wirtz runs onto the ball and, from the penalty spot, slots the ball home past Cairns.

Should Isak have done a better job to get on the end of that one? Possibly.

Final stop on their US tours
Soldier Field in Chicago hosts an all-Premier League tie encounter as Liverpool take on Leeds as both sides bring their US tours to a close. Both Premier League encounters between these sides last season ended in draws; a 3-3 draw at Elland Road was followed up by a 0-0 stalemate at Anfield. The draw at Elland Road was immediately followed by Mohamed Salah speaking to the media, claiming he had been thrown under the bus.
It is a new era at Liverpool as former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has replaced Arne Slot at Anfield. They kicked off the Iraola era in Nashville, Tennessee, with a 4-2 win over Sunderland, following that up with another victory in New York on Wednesday night, beating Wrexham 1-0, and will be aiming to make it three wins from three on their US tour.
“I think it [the US tour] has been really, really useful,” Iraola said in an interview on the official Liverpool website. Obviously, you spend a lot of time with the players, with the staff, you get all the information you can. And I think there is also an evolution, it has to be. We start to understand each other better, what we need to do. Every game, I hope we can get closer and closer and put ourselves in a position where the few players that still are not here start to train also, they are helped by the others.”
Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo resumed training back on Merseyside whilst Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson and Victor Munoz are yet to return to training following their World Cup exploits. The trio of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch are all set to feature for the first time this pre-season.
Leeds’ pre-season campaign began with a 3-2 loss to Championship Wrexham in Tampa, Florida before beating Sunderland 1-0 in New Jersey courtesy of a long-range strike from Lukas Nmecha. Former Liverpool man Harry Wilson joined Leeds on a free from Fulham this summer.
“Really tough but that is expected,” Wilson said. That is what pre-season is for, building up a base for when the season starts, making sure you are in the best physical position you can be to attack the season. It has been good. I played against them [Leeds] twice last year when I was at Fulham. Both games were really, really tough games.
“I think when the fans have got a good team to support, I think that [the atmosphere at Elland Road] goes up a notch. I think the size of the club was a massive part of me coming. Then speaking to the guys, the chairman, the sporting director, and seeing kind of the plans and the aims for the club, it is something I wanted to be a part of.”
