Big frame physical receiver with good hands but questionble speed. Needs to work on his route running and ability to create separation.

What a wasted pick. He is 26 yrs old by the start of the season and has bad knees.

LOVE this pick. Never seen him play, or heard of him before now, but I love it.

Don't know anything about the guy but I was wondering why the Cards, and other teams for that matter, weren't looking for special teams aces in the 6th and 7th. Guys like Sean Morey and LSH both 7th round picks that they've liked in the past.

LOL

This past three days has really brought to light to me what a joke the draft is from the fans perspective. Other then very few people, most fans just read a bunch of mocks or read draft publications and because a couple guys are telling one thing or rated a player a certain way, its the gospel. Or even worse there is a relative "consensus" and then it might as well just be fact at this point. "wait Marcus Cannon was a projected 3rd rounder but now is steal in the 5th!".....Actually now hes just a 5th rounder and passed over multiple times at that.

If these guys like McShay, or Kiper or Walter were any good, they would have been hired by a team.

And we have people on the board bemonaning pick after pick because it wasnt the consensus of the draft publications and then there will be some that look up a pick and read something good and be happy about that. Well you can find good or bad on ANYONE so really what are all these fans so sure about? Do they even know what they don't know? Sherman is the best FB on one site and not listed Top 10 on another.....Oh what to believe????

And then the Williams fumble quote yesterday was broken down like Watergate (with Chris Sanders playing Woodward and Bernstein on Twitter and ASFN ;)) and likely what happened is the head coach was handed a bad stat sheet (That i myself went off of) and read it at the PC. Does anyone actually think Bill Belichek knows how many INTs Ryan Mallett threw his junior year? Umm probably not.

Whats important is if the player ends up being good, not that the HC knew a fumble stat properly. Its perfectly likely that Wiz did his due diligence, interviewed and worked out the player, watched SOME tape and felt comfortable with the pick. Hes the HC not Scouting Director. Then he reads the erroneous stat sheet he was handed and then you have the typical posters jumping off cliffs and their heads exploding and signaling this moment as the end of the Whisenhunt era. Seriously could anything less important been made into such a dramatic ballad?

Lets just say its been an annoying couple days. The draft is a crapshoot period from a fans persepctive, and no matter who you are on this board, you don't know as much as you think you do.

Anyway I have no clue who Demarco Sampson is, but I am guessing either way he won't make or break us.

RANT OVER :)

The drama has been entertaining.
I haven't been entertained. I'm annoyed at the crap half of our draft picks have received when they've only been a part of the team for a couple hours. Some of our other blown picks have turned out fine (LSH, Toler, Hightower).

04/04/11 - San Diego State Pro day: San Diego State hosted its pro day on March 24, providing a platform for eight Aztec players with NFL aspirations. Representatives from 17 teams were in attendance, including San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner and Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. The event was held outdoors on FieldTurf. Turner ran the drills for wide receivers, with two players standing out among the mix. DeMarco Sampson (6-2 1/8, 201) also attended the combine and posted a set of fresh numbers at the pro day. He posted a pair of 40 times at 4.41, had a 35 1/2 vertical jump, 10-foot broad jump, 4.26-second short shuttle and 6.93 three-cone drill. He thrived in his positional workout with Turner, and may have increased his draft standing from a seventh-round pick to the fifth or even fourth round. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Sampson is currently No. 1 in the league in receptions per outing (5.4) and second behind Brown in receiving yards (97.9 ypg.). He posted his sixth 100-yard receiving game in the team's regular-season finale with UNLV and has seven on his career to tie for 13th in the SDSU record book. I believe he was hurt in '06 and '07, but not since.

Notes: California prep grayshirted in 2004. Appeared in all 12 games as a true freshman in ’05, catching six passes for 60 yards (10.0-yard average) and a touchdown. Suffered a third-degree Lisfranc sprain in the fall of ’06, which caused him to miss two seasons. Returned in ’08 to play in 11 games, catching 11-111-1 (10.1) and returning seven kickoffs for 110 yards (15.7). Started all 12 games in ’09 and posted 62-851-8. Was granted a sixth year of eligibility in ’10 and hauled in 67-1,220-8 in 13 starts. Will turn 26 during rookie season. Was medically excluded from working out at the Combine after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Positives: Very good size. Drives defenders off and creates separation on short-to-intermediate routes. Plucks throws outside his frame. Good body control. Competitive.
Negatives: Pedestrian speed. Inconsistent hands. Route running is not polished. Not a run-after-catch threat. Disinterested blocker. Not exceptionally strong for an older player. Durability is a concern — missed a lot of game action because of injury. Can be overly emotional. Overaged with limited upside.
Summary: Big, competitive, overaged West Coast chain mover who could be effective running short digs, hitches and outs, though his age, durability and lack of speed and explosiveness limit his value.

NFL projection: Priority free agent.

A 26 year old with no speed and a blown knee? AWESOME!
At least give him credit for running two 4.41's on that blown knee at his Pro Day and also catching 67 passes for 1,220 yards in his final college year.

The 7th round supplementary pick is where you want to roll the dice on a guy that may be that big, that fast and that much more productive than he used to be.

The worst that happens is that you've wasted a #249. But the upside is that he could wind up contributing significantly to your football team. I like those odds.

nice post AF.

The thing we'll never know just reading up on what the pundits say, is what the teams' actual scouts have to say about the players.

Then the teams often draft for need, to fill holes that they need then or the immediate future.....well except for us apparently.- ;)

So the one thing you also need to consider is some of these posters are fans of their college teams and watch them play every down.

And they're often right.

The bottom line is that if you are a Cards fan, you should expect the top 3 picks every year to be active on the roster if not starters, and we have seen the history.

If these guys like McShay, or Kiper or Walter were any good, they would have been hired by a team.
I don't know anything about McShay or Walter but Kiper would take a huge drastic pay cut if he worked for an NFL team. He is incorporated and in the speaker's circuit.

Picking this guy is almost as stupid as picking a back up RB with the 7th pick named La Rod Stephens-Howling. I remember the board ripping that pick!!

How do you know they haven't been offered positions with teams but can make more money being draft gurus or simply enjoy what they do so decline the offer?

Lets just say its been an annoying couple days. The draft is a craps hoot period from a fans perspective, and no matter who you are on this board, you don't know as much as you think you do.

Somebody has to make this post every year.

I'm a fan. I don't care if I know as much as the guys who perennially lead the Cards to the bottom of the NFL.

I like to talk football and part of that is criticizing things the team does based on my perspective. Like Zeno said in another thread if you don't like it why come on here?

Instead of just bashing people why not refute the negative statements in a reasonable manner (instead of being rude about it like some other posters) with insight from your perspective and facts?
