Cardinals Hire Richard Tomey
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, April 23, 2003

Tempe, Arizona — The Arizona Cardinals name Richard
Tomey to the newly-created position of youth football
coordinator.

Tomey will oversee the Cardinals’ “NFL Flag” program
throughout Arizona. He will implement fall and spring
flag football leagues across the state.

Launched in 1996, “NFL Flag” is the NFL’s official
youth flag football league for boys and girls 6-14
years old. It provides the opportunity for kids and
families to become involved in football early in life.
It also offers the kids a chance to become part of a
well-organized national program emphasizing football
education, participation, and sportsmanship.

Tomey, a 1994 University of Arizona graduate,
previously worked in various capacities for the Arizona
Diamondbacks’ organization, including fan development
manager in Phoenix, and operations manager and sales
and marketing manager in southern Arizona.

He also worked in the University of Arizona athletic
department in marketing and promotions as well as in
football operations.

Tomey is the son of current San Francisco 49ers nickel
teams coach and former University of Arizona head
football coach Dick Tomey.
