The ref didn't back off the ball until about 5 seconds left on play clock...holding for the defense to sub.

I get that they don't at to be fair, but they should have a signal that adds 5 seconds to clock at that moment. It's not just about having to waste TOs, but it's about the pace of play getting bogged down.
