Okay capologists, how would we be sitting as far the cap goes if we were to make the following moves in the offseason? Would we be in position to bring in a big name like Faneca or Suggs?

Dansby - re-sign
Berry - cut
Holt - cut (would this save money?)
Gandy - re-work
Ross - re-work or cut
Fitz - extend

We can do keep all of them, and still sign a big FA. Joe will confirm.

I thought it said "Crapologist" at first. Glad it wasn't what I thought initially.

Anyway, just a comment, Ross doesn't need a restructure, he already did that. He took a pay cut last year just to remain a Cardinal. One thing I really hope for next year is that he stays healthy long enough to show everyone that he's probably the best tackle on our Roster. Ross gets a lot of flack from fans because he didn't play well under Dennis Green. He's a quality "team oriented" player, and he was very solid in Pittsburgh. From what I saw of him in pre-season before his injury, he looked very solid. Don't forget, he did start on a 15 win team not too long ago. He plays very well under Russ Grimm.

Cutting Berry is not a cost effective move. I realize he's not what he used to be, he has health issues, plus he's not getting any younger. However, he's a huge locker room presence, a team leader, and when healthy he's still a solid player. Is he a long term answer? No, but they are better off drafting a young DE with a large potential upside and giving him a year on the bench to learn from Bert. The Cardinals are in a position where they have several positions that need to have starters replaced ASAP. That being the case, they can't afford to just cut people at will. Neither Eric Green or Antrel Rolle are going to be able to play another year as a starting Corner, and Holt needs to be removed from starting line up as well.

Your views are appreciated. They are just so wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to start so I'll just express my opinion on two of them:

I believe Bert Berry will be cut and CB Eric Green will start for us next year.

Actually, they are just different from yours. We're both dealing purely in hypotheticals at this point, so neither can be "right" or "wrong." With that in mind, I realize that many disagree with my appraisal of certain players ability, I would expect that on a forum with so many different opinions. I do want to clarify on one player though, that I do like Eric Green a lot. The guy is all heart and I think that will keep him on this team. My concern with him is still his coverage skills, while he's improved dramatically from last year, he still lacks in coverage. If he continues to progress though, you may very well be right about him, and I hope you are. I would love nothing more then to see Eric Green become a solid corner and a long time starter on this team. Eric Green is a warrior and brings nothing but positives to the football field every week.

He didnt take a pay cut. He restructured. Lowered his base salary by 1 Million but was able to earn back that 1 Million if he started in 6 or more games. He only lowered his cap figure for this season not any future seasons, so he does in fact need to restructure once again.

He looked solid under Grimm in what will be more then 3 years ago when he finally becomes healthy again. That team was 15-1, 3 years ago. When he was 30 years old. He will be 34 years old for the 2008 season.

Also he tore his left triceps in the 1st quarter of the 1st preseason game so I am not sure how anyone can look very solid for 1 maybe 2 offensive series in the first preseason game.

Cutting Berry is not a cost effective move. I realize he's not what he used to be, he has health issues, plus he's not getting any younger. There comes a point when the value of locker room presence and team leader just doesnt pay you back dividends anymore. Missing a 3rd straight whole half of a season with another major injury at the age of what will be 33 next year devalues those other qualities. Also you wouldn't just be cutting him just to cut him, you would be using the 4+ Mill in saved cap space on another starter. Also considering he wasn't voted as one of the 2 defensive captains as voted on by the players, we have other leaders to take his place.

Why not half whole?

Heh, sorry, that makes me a complete hole.

You are right about not restructuring Ross contract. He needs to be cut. He has done nothing since he has signed with this team. It is time to cut our losses and move on.

I realize my lobbying for Oliver Ross isn't going to do any good. I have a buddy of mine that also thinks he's a good player, and I realize we are the only 2 fans in the state that thinks this guy can play. It's cool, and I totally expect that, at least people were nice enough not to flame me.

As far as Berry goes, I'm just as frustrated as anyone else with his constant injury. Would I like to see someone better and more reliable come in? Of course I would, but I really don't think it's going to happen. I think the Cardinals are still sold on Berry and unless someone comes along that is a "no brainer" pick or free agent, I just don't expect them to do much on the defensive line. Is it a need? Yes it is, but it's not as glaring as our secondary because you have a guy there that might have a good season. With Holt, you know for sure that if he's on the field, he's gonna suck. If we upgrade our defensive ends, i'll be leading the pack in cheers, I just don't see it happening. They're going to try and ride it out with Berry. I think Offensive Line, and our defensive secondary are more in need of improvement then our defensive line. The question is rather or not those guys can stay healthy. Trust me, I have as many doubts as everyone else, I just don't see them making defensive end an off season priority.
