The Washington Capitals advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after eliminating the Montreal Canadiens in a 4-1 series.
Even with extra rest, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery knew the Carolina Hurricanes, a shot-volume heavy team, would be difficult to defeat in Round 2.
"Eventually you break down, or they break teams down with those [shots], not necessarily the first one, but the fourth and fifth one," Carbery told reporters.
"That's where for us, we know what to expect, and we're going to have to do a job. They know what they do well. We know what we do well. And it's going to be a battle of who can impose their game at a higher level.”

Just as Carbery warned, the Hurricanes were relentless, making 91 total shot attempts in regulation. Carolina took 33 shots on net versus 14 for Washington.
While the Canes dominated early with puck possession, the Capitals scored first. Aliaksei Protas made his first career playoff goal, giving Washington a 1-0 lead in the second period. However, the Hurricanes, who've yet to allow a power play goal this postseason, ultimately defeated Washington 2-1 in overtime.
Following the brutal loss at home at the Capital One Arena, the team sent a brief message to fans. "Game 2 on Thursday."
Fans immediately bombarded the post with comments, disappointed with team's overall performance.
A Caps fan commented, "we didn’t deserve to win, just absolutely pathetic." One man wrote, "I don’t expect you to be faster or even shoot as much as them. But for the love of god, please get out of your own zone. And throw the body!"
If Washington wants to even the series on Thursday, Carbery is going to need to make some adjustment on their plan of attack.
