One of the most shocking matches in World Cup history took place on July 3, as Cape Verde and Argentina went into stoppage time in their Round of 32 matchup.
Massive underdog Cape Verde (who has become this World Cup’s most beloved team) managed to last 90 minutes after a goal from Deroy Duarte in the 59th minute. This came after Lionel Messi started the scoring for Argentina in the 29th minute.
Argentina quickly scored in extra time before a sensational goal from Cape Verde’s Sidney Lopes Cabral in the 103rd minute, which tied the game at 2-2, though the reigning champions of Argentina ultimately prevailed 3-2.

After scoring this sensational goal, Lopes Cabral ran into the stands where he embraced a woman who is believed to he his girlfriend, before heading back down to the field to continue the game.
There isn’t much known about who Cabral’s girlfriend might be, as the 23-year-old full-back for Süper Lig club Trabzonspor prefers to keep his relationship private on social media.

However, there’s no question that this was his significant other, as she appeared to tell him that she loved him before he returned to the field of play.
Ultimately, this sensational moment won’t matter in terms of Cape Verde’s fate, as Argentina scored another goal in the second-half of stoppage time to take a 3-2 lead.
However, despite Cape Verde coming up short, this goal and celebration from Cabral will turn him into a global icon and serve as the shining moment from one of the most unprecedented World Cup runs in history.
