Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals is heading to overtime for the second game in a row.

The Carolina Hurricanes, who won Game 2 on a Nikolaj Ehlers goal, and Montreal Canadiens have alternated goals in Game 3.

Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere opened the scoring in the first period, but Mike Matheson tied it for Montreal. Taylor Hall scored less than a minute later to put Carolina ahead 2-1 before the end of the period.

Lane Hutson tied the game in the second period and no goal has been scored since to force the 20th overtime game of the 2026 NHL playoffs.

The Hurricanes have outshot the Canadiens 32-12 through three periods. The Canadiens have blocked 30 shots.

Sebastian Aho scores​


The Hurricanes enter the zone after a turnover and the puck eventually gets to Andrei Svechnikov, whose shot goes in off Sebastian Aho. Aho had been screening Jakub Dobes.

The Canadiens appeared to have too many men on the ice, but the on-ice officials huddle and nothing is called.

Carolina leads 5-0 in shots in overtime as the ice crews come out to scrape the ice.
