A potential World Cup-changing call happened Wednesday night during the USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina World Cup Round of 32 match in Santa Clara, California.

USMNT's Folarin Balogun was given a red card after spiking Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic in the back of the ankle during the second half of USA's 2-0 victory.

While the play didn't look intentional on Balogun's part, officials reviewed the play and determined a red card was necessary for his action.

Can USMNT appeal Folarin Balogun red card?

The short answer is no. The automatic one-game suspension cannot be overturned or contested.

This means that Balogun, USA's leading goal scorer in this World Cup, will be suspended for the team's Round of 16 match against Belgium on Monday night in Seattle.

If USA wins that match and advances, he will be eligible to return for the quarterfinals.
