With Peterson, Cromartie, Mathieu and Johnson in coverage...could Bucannon fill in in the box and offer a torpedo against the run and enough coverage ability to fill the void in the back of the box in front of the safeties. I am sure this scheme has been discussed. just a thought.

They are going to expect him to play at least some of a traditional safety role, even for a strong safety in coverage. He was not asked to do that much in college I believe and there is always a learning curve once you get to the pro game... he will have his moments of WTH early when he is not in the box lol

It's just a continuation, that's all. The ridiculousness has been a going since the suspension fiasco.

This thread is ridiculous.

I'm guilty of a sharp tongue and little patience. Perhaps we both need to learn some consideration for a fellow Cardinal fan who is simply trying to join the conversation. At least this thread is not about DW and for that we all should be thankful.

As to DBuc---I think the Cardinal brass fully expects him to play in the box---it was one of his strengths in college and I imagine they expect him to do the same in the pros. We are going against some pretty stout RB within our Division: Gore and the new rookie in SF, Beastmode, and Stacy with the Rams. DBuc is going to have to be picking up the slack with these guys 6 times (or more).

lol. I started a reply with that as the first point, but got sidetracked and am no longer by that PC. As for him stepping up into the box. All the scout reports I've read thus far have that as one of his viggest strengths. He's very talented in that area. I have faith in Bowles optimizing him in that role quite efficiently. Assuming Minter is as good as we expected him to be when we grabbed him, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 S sets with Bucannon creeping up and Johnson/Jefferson and Mathieu playing back. I think Bowles will make it work the best way possible given our situation. I have faith that he will keep us an elite D

I get it...in my defense, I have worked eighty hour weeks the last two weeks and haven't really had a chance to analyze or think about the situation. I got the news on my app and perused the comments here. Most comments were freaking out, blaming DWash, blaming Keim and Arians for not being prepared and the season is over. I finally had some time to think and I hadn't seen a comment that was positive and that could see the potential for Bucannon and the upgraded secondary to pick up the slack for Dansby and DWash. I have been very excited for this team and want to find any positive possibilities moving forward.

Well, Cardlogic or whatever your name is...I don't believe my thought was absurd but feel free to mock all you want. i see you do it over and over. If that gets your "logic" jollies off for the day...then glad I could be of service.

That is what I was thinking...a three safety set. Which, by my account, is a different set then what we would use with two ILBs with good coverage ability. This would be a schematic adjustment and exactly the kind of response I was looking for.

Bucannon...yeah, I get it. :D

My apologies, specifically to you, Little, for being curt and dismissive. And I apologize to the board in general.

In my defense all I can say is I am wound a bit too tight over this entire situation with D. Washington. It has really hit me hard.

When I initially read this thread (and I think there were a couple of other posts ahead of mine, that have been subsequently deleted), I misunderstood the point that was being made. I mistakenly thought that it was being implied that Bucannon ;) could be utilized as a replacement for Washington, in what basically would amount to a LB position.

Here is what my first response should have stated: I am excited about what Bucannon can add to the Cardinals defense and I do agree with him having some assets as an in the box safety. However, it should be pointed out that Bucannon is not the second coming of Adrian Wilson. A-Dub stands 6'-3" at 230 lbs. Bucannon is listed at 6'-1 and 208 lbs. It would be unfair to expect him to fill the gap that Washington's dismissal has left.

Again, sorry for my rudeness.

No worries...i have a degree in philosophy with logic being my area of focus. I can be a nitpicking ass myself... :). With Minter being the pounder, Bucannon the thumper and whomever else is at inside linebacker...our run defense might even be better than last year. Our upgrades in the secondary have put us in a position to be very creative schematically. DWash isn't going to be replaced but I think the pieces that we have can mask that hole quite a bit. I still think this is a very scary D...and the offense might prove to be even more scary. If the O can get us a lead and not expect the D to bail us out what an amazing team this could be.

Cardlogic, have a great day buddy.

from all I've read, his ability in the box is supposed to be among the best attributes he brings to the table. I think he'll be able to play up quite efficiently. And with Mathieu, Johnson and Jefferson able to play deeper safety, I think it's a decent situation for him/us. I have faith in Bowles to be able to draw up some fanciness to let our guys all play to their strengths and give us the best chance to win.

Cardlogic...I had to do it. I had forgot about this idea. Hmmmm...sometimes I am ahead of the curve...sometimes(proof from many posts) I'm an idiot.

How is Bucannon being used?
