If the Illinois coaches are sincere when they say they hope the best for players who leave the program — I'm going to assume it's genuine — then they must be happy with what has happened to the current transfer class.

So far, four have found homes in the Power Four. Two are going to the Big 12, one to the SEC and one, with a fun twist to the Big Ten.

The new members of the Big 12 are at Kansas (defensive lineman Alex Bray) and Colorado (offensive lineman Zy Crisler). In the SEC, Georgia nabbed Citrus Bowl MVP Josh McCray. My plan is to make sure the Bulldogs end up on my DVD must-record list each week. If McCray gets beaucoup carries in Athens, the move will have been worth it. Wonder if Kirby Smart is willing to share his plan with a reporter. Probably not.

The lone ex to find a Big Ten home is kicker Ethan Moczulski, who is now at Washington. Just when I had learned to properly spell his name. Oh, well.

The football gods have a quirky sense of humor. So, when Illinois visits Seattle on Oct. 25, it won't be a surprise if the game comes down a kick by ... let's just call him Ethan.

Congrats to all the transfers. Making the decision to leave Champaign-Urbana couldn't have been easy. I came here 35 years ago with the idea of a three- or four-year stop. Missed that goal by three decades and counting.
