The Pittsburgh Pirates had been setting themselves up to be buyers at the trade deadline, and well before the cutoff of team-to-team transactions on Monday evening.
On Saturday afternoon, the Pirates acquired Camilo Doval from the New York Yankees in exchange for a pair of prospects.
This is now Doval's second time in as many years being traded to a new team ahead of the deadline. Even though the pitcher has bounced around the league, Doval's focus is just trying to control what he can.
"In this game, things like that are gonna happen; just getting traded, "said Doval through his interpreter on Sunday.
"The way I see it is just to control the stuff, the things that I can control, and that's gonna happen. Some people are going to make decisions, and I just have to do my job, control myself."
Doval should give Pittsburgh another high-leverage arm in the back of the bullpen, but he said he's ready to do whatever the team needs to help them win.
"I feel comfortable here already, because I have so many relationships with some of the guys before, and coming here," Doval continued.
"It's just a matter of me doing my job, and whatever they need me to do, as a picture, I'll do is help with you."

As for what role Doval will have with the Pirates, it still isn't entirely clear, but the veteran reiterated that it doesn't matter when he's pitching.
"I haven't heard the specific role, but it doesn't matter because I'm here to pitch wherever they need me to throw in the game; I'll be ready. Then time will tell with my what my job, what kind of role or, where I'm going."
Even though Doval is joining a new team, it wasn't too long ago he watched this Pirates team play from the opposite dugout when Pittsburgh made a trip to New York just a few weeks back.
Doval learned a lot about what would end up being his new team from that series.
"I saw the unity on the team, the playing the hard part, they go out there to play hard. And that's what I like. I like the adrenaline of the game and that's what makes me who I am and that I love that about the team."
By all indications, Doval should be a perfect fit with the Pirates. Now, it's all about seeing how those pieces fit together.
