Cameron Heyward Gets Bad News On Snap Count Ahead Of Steelers Training Camp originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive tackle Cameron Heyward could see his playing time taking a hit in the 2026 NFL season.
Heyward is 37-years-old and entering his 16th NFL season, all with the Steelers. Although he’s still an effective player for Pittsburgh, Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly believes the team could limit some of Heyward's playing time this season.
“I would imagine that (the Steelers) are gonna try to limit some of (Heyward’s) snaps this year down," Kaboly said. "Just, you know, maybe five, 10 percent. Just because they got some depth along that defensive line and keep him healthier into December and January. I think that’s what they really want to do. But the plans tend to get thrown out the window when they’re out there and playing the game. So we’ll see how that really works out.”
Heyward recorded 78 tackles and 3.5 sacks last season, while in 2024, he had eight sacks and 71 tackles. Although last season was a down year, he still can be an effective run stuffer and pass rusher, but Pittsburgh may decide to limit his playing time to try and keep him healthier for the playoff push.
Heyward is under contract through the 2027 NFL season, but here is an out after the 2026 season.
