At some point, this is not even surprising anymore. The former Clemson star went deep once again for Double-A Pensacola, giving him nine home runs over his last 15 games, according to Fish On First Prospects.
Cannarella has basically turned into a nightly notification for Clemson fans and Marlins prospect watchers. Every time it feels like the power run should slow down, he gives everyone the same answer.
The latest blast came with Pensacola trailing 4-2 in the seventh inning, and the broadcast graphic showed Cannarella already sitting at eight home runs with a .606 slugging percentage before the swing. Then, naturally, he added another one, tying the game at 4s.
This version of Canarella has a different kind of juice in his bat attached to it. The Clemson bat has always had the contact skills, the athleticism, and the ability to impact games in more than one way. Now he's bringing a power to his game we've never seen before.
For the Marlins, that is exactly what you want to see from a prospect adjusting to Double-A pitching. It's the hardest jump to make in baseball, and he's in full cruise control.
There is only so much new to say when the same guy keeps homering every few days, but that is kind of the point. Cannarella is making repetition feel like news.
