In a recent interview after an Indiana Fever practice, Caitlin Clark spoke about the leadership and championship mentality of teammate DeWanna Bonner. Bonner signed with the Fever this season, and in a February press conference, the basketball star stated that she joined the team “to win another championship” and “get back to the Finals.”

During Day 2 of Fever training camp at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, podcast host James Boyd asked Clark how it feels to train and compete in a culture where championship expectations are the standard. Boyd later posted the video on X.

"DB has been tremendous. She's such a selfless leader. She's here to win, but she really means it, and she leads with example every single day," Clark said.

Bonner has openly stated her desire to win another WNBA championship. The 37-year-old athlete signing with the Fever this year is seen as a significant move that signifies the the team is aiming to compete for a championship this season.

“DB’s been tremendous. Not only as a leader, she’s a tremendous basketball player, too," adds Clark. "She’s won championships. She knows what it is. So when she speaks, everyone listens.”

Clark even took some time to reflect on last season. Though the Fever made the playoffs in 2024, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Connecticut Sun.

"I think that was the piece of the thing we were missing last year. We didn't have that inside our locker room," Clark says.

Fans can easily see through this quick interaction that Clark and the Fever have a lot of respect for Bonner and her work ethic.

"I wanna win for her," the point guard said at the end of the conversation. "This is the end of her career. She deserves it."
