INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark poured in a career-high and franchise-record 44 points and dished 10 assists to lift the Fever to a 110-107 come-from-behind victory over the Seattle Storm on Friday night.
Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in a single game. She scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a step-back 3 with 38.1 seconds left that gave Indiana a three-point lead it never relinquished.
Clark’s herculean performance marked her third game of the season with at least 30 points and 10 assists and the fourth of her career. No other player in WNBA history has more than one.
Clark was supposed to be on a minutes restriction due to a nagging back injury she’s dealt with all season. She’d only played about 25 minutes per game in her two previous outings since returning from a one-game absence, but she played 29 minutes Friday to hold off the feisty Storm.
Fellow Fever star Kelsey Mitchell also had a big night, scoring 17 of her 30 points in the first quarter. She’s scored at least 20 points in nine straight games.
Dominique Malonga paced the Storm with 24 points and 14 rebounds. All five Storm starters scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their fifth-straight loss.
