Detroit Pistons All-Star guard Cade Cunningham left the game against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, March 17, early with what the team later said was back spasms.
It’s unknown if Cunningham will miss time with the issue. When asked postgame about Cunningham’s status, coach J.B. Bickerstaff didn’t have an update, saying, “I don’t have enough information yet.”
Cunningham has played 61 of the Pistons’ 68 games this season, a far cry from the injuries that marred the 2021 No. 1 overall pick’s first three seasons with the franchise. In 2021-22, he played 64 of 72 games, followed by 12 (of 82) in 2022-23 and 62 (of 82).

Last season he set a career high with 70 games played, finishing with a third-team All-NBA nod.
If he stays healthy the rest of the season, he could reach 75 games, another career high.

Cunningham was out for three games with a left hip contusion suffered in a fall to the court early in the seasoin.
Cunningham missed two games with a right wrist contusion. But after talking to the medical staff, they determined the injury was unlikely to get worse from him playing. So he played through the pain. His shooting suffered as he hit just 13 of 47 shots from the field (27.7%) over the next three games.
Soon after returning from the wrist injuries, Cunningham missed the Pistons’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans for both continued pain from the left hip contusion and illness.
Cunnningham missed one game, against the Brooklyn Nets at home, with a quad contusion.
