LMAO. 1.7 assists per game makes Bynum light years better then Shaqs 1.4??? Come on. You won't get any argument from me about his FT shooting.

The season is far from over and I am quick to point out our teams deficiencies this year. It's a far cry from what I am reading from some of you Laker fans. :doi:

You are a smart basketball fan so you should know that good passing doesn't always lead to assists.

You are also a good reader so you should stop with this garbage that I said he was light years better.

As a passer, he's as good or better than Shaq and he was extremely underrated.

As good or better. Oh, and thanks for making my point by posting their assist stats which are virtually identical (with Bynum a bit better).

I'm always pointing out the deficiencies of the Lakers, so I don't know what you are going on about in reference to me. Frankly, I'm shocked that Bynum is playing at this level because I was writing him off last year as a soft, no-fire potential bust.

even playoffs... you can tell Phil Jackson has what it takes to outcoach D'Antoni. Odom has a blast.. Kobe... now if Bynum didnt get injured he would put up huge stats in a series too.. Lakers threw big players inside and it actually challenged the Suns... with Bynum who can put up 20/10... Lakers can and will beat the Suns, if D'Antoni coached the way he does.

No one can tellt his early in the year what will be, no not even you. The lakers have something to prove and are playing like it, that is very well. The same is true of the celtics. The mavs, suns and spurs know that what they have to prove can only happen in the post season, so they are not playing at as high a level. We shall see in the postseason. As far as NBA coaching, most overrated job in sports. Mor than any other sport its the players not the coach. All the "great" coaches have had top 20 talent, go figure. PJ has had so much talent(even top 10 all time) to work with, who knows what he would do with a lesser team. Pop has only had David Robinson and Tim Duncan, lets see what he can do with the Bobcats talent. Suddenly Doc Rivers is a good coach with KG Ray and Allen added to the team. Sure basketball coaching matters, but talent is clearly more important. Many on this board think the suns have the best talent, but realistically only amare is a blue chip go to guy, and he has serious flaws in his(defensive) game. How many teams out there would start Raja at the '2' guard, he's probably not even top 15 in the NBA at that position. the only suns starters that would start for most NBA teams are amare, Nash and Marion, and Marion wouldnt play PF for most teams. Everyone forgets the "suns effect", everybody has career years here. Some of you guys think the stats are comparable to what these guys would do on other teams. I am a long term suns fan, and I love watching these guys play, but the talent on this team is not as good or deep as some people think.

lakers suns
c bynum amare edge suns, but not a big one(like kwame)
PF odom marion even
sf walton hill edge suns
sg kobe Raja big edge lakers
PG fisher Nash big edge suns

bench

radmonovich barbosa
ariza diaw
farmar skinner
turiaf banks
kwame (pike, DJ, marks)
vujacic

When I look at these rosters, the suns have a slight edge on the starters, but its clear the lakers bench is better than the suns bench, offensively AND defensively, and not by a little. The addition of ariza really helps the lakers match up defensively with swing players and adds speed. farmar is just worlds better than the suns backup PG comittee. Depth at the 4, 5 potitions is way better for the lakers. And then there is kobe who has adjusted his game to help the team, who would have thought he would do that. The lakers should be very good, the talent is there, PJ probably gets more credit than he deserves for that. That is a talented, deep roster, and farmar is one of the best backup PG's in the league right now.

As usual in the NBA one injury can change everything, and now is not the time to be peaking as a team as the suns know all too well. We shall see come the postseason.

I do not know how to take this brief comment by you lol..

ha! I just thought it was great because some people would crap a cat if someone posted anything remotely off, but you are always cool about stuff. I think I've been hanging out in the Politics and Religion section too much.

lakers as good as they have been... IS NOT top 3.. they are worse than their record shows.

Top 5 yes... The west standings is still unstable.... but Mavs and Jazz still better or on par with lakers.

heck Blazers are only a few games behind Lakers... you dont say they are top 5... but the way they are playing... they will be soon.

Well, while I understand and respect your opinion, I respectfully disagree. The Lakers with Bynum are one of the 3 best teams in the West in my opinion. They are 3rd in the league in scoring, they are a swarming defensive team, they are deep and talented, they have (arguably) the best player in the NBA, and a coach with 9 rings. They hold the best record in the West despite having a brutal starting schedule, and they put away bad teams by 20+. To me, that makes them top 3. They are considerably better then the inconsistent Utah Jazz, but I don't disagree on Portland being a top 5 right now. Could this ranking change over the course of the year? Of course, but right now, today, the Lakers are elite. The numbers don't lie. The only elite team they haven't owned is Portland, and that's because they haven't played them yet.

OMG. Here we go. Bynum is the next savior of the Lakers. Let's see the Lakers get out of the first round (despite what happens in the regular season) before you Laker fans get your heads too inflated.

Bynum has definitely improved. This is the best I have seen him and more of what I expected from this guy. However, he hasn't done it for a full season yet and he still has alot to improve. I would be exited from that standpoint but lets not mention him and Shaq in the same breath.

Whoa easy there tiger. :D

I don't think Bynum is "the savior," nor am I ready to anoint him the next Shaq. I'm not even saying the Lakers are going to win a title this year. My argument is that Bynum is a solid center and the Lakers are a good team, nothing more. I'm pulling for them, yes and yes I think they have a chance, but you won't see me running around declaring that we own the NBA anytime soon. I still consider the West to be wide open, I simply consider the Lakers to be in the mix. Nothing more, nothing less.
