We are insane for paying Prater. Where would we be without his nine points against the 49ers? What if we'd only gotten six points from a veteran minimum salary free agent?

Until we actually need the money for an above average player or can get a meaningful draft pick for him, why trade Budda? It's not like we have a pipeline of quality safeties behind him.

I’ll elaborate. Drafting CBs is a crapshoot. It’s almost as bad as QBs. So having strong safeties is essential. The way this defense works is Baker is moved all over the place. That’s a hard role to draft for, remember Simmons. Also the Cards have a history of suffering when they trade or release leaders. Gannon has gone out of his way to praise Baker’s leadership. I’d be surprised if they think they can replace him. It is a great deal to pay for safeties, but when they’re two of your best impact players you make it work.
