This one really stings. Burnes was pitching great Sunday. His curveball was wicked as was the cutter. So bummed for him. Hope he’s able to get back and continue his career.

So we're down to two fairly dependable starters - Kelly and Nelson; and three under-achieving starters - Pfaadt, Gallen and Rodriguez. You can justify having hope that Pfaadt and Gallen should pitch better, but Rodriguez is just about what we should have expected to get - frequently hurt and inconsistant. The less said about the bullpen, the better.

The offense is what it is - pretty good, but not as good as last years because of a couple of holes every night - generally CF, and backup C.

So if they're going to be a buyer, their targets might be bullpen help (obviously) a dependable starter and perhaps a CF.

If they turn out to be sellers, there's plenty of options - Naylor, Gallen, Suarez, Kelly, Gurriel, etc.

For a cheap team, their luck with FA pitchers has been disastrous. This one is especially bad luck, considering he had no track record of injury issues.

I don't think Hazen will do anything to replace Burnes. The organization is fine with a .500 club this year in the toughest division in baseball. It doesn't make sense to trade Ketel Marte for another SP. KM is just too valuable to the team, not only for his offense but his leadership as well.

This. It’s crazy how consistently this has been the case considering how the franchise started with Randy Johnson’s and curt schilling. It’s like we used up all our pitching acquisition mojo with them.

And we need to stop with these player options on big contracts for pitchers.

And I don't think Burnes will pitch again for the DBacks...lots of sunk cost in that guy. Great pitcher, but injuries are always the equalizer and ultimate determining factor of the quality of a deal.

He better pitch again for us. We are paying him $30m a year for 6 years whether he pitches or not. An early June surgery means either a couple of September games next year of 2027.
