The Arizona Cardinals have had two of their key veteran players absent from OTAs over the last couple of weeks. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is in a contract dispute with the team, and outside linebacker Josh Sweat has been away.
It is technically the voluntary part of the offseason, but it does get noticed when veteran players are not there.
Their absences are not causing problems for the other players in the locker room.
"It's OTAs. We don't have to be here," safety Budda Baker said this week. "They've got the situations that they've got going on, and when they come into the building, it's welcoming them in with open arms and just understanding that the NFL is a business, so no love lost.
"Love those guys when they get in the building, you know they'll be in the building and just keep the main thing the main thing."
Baker understands perfectly, as in 2023, he had a contract dispute that had him not participating in all the offseason program.
Baker expects both Brissett and Sweat to be with the team when they need to be. He isn't making a big deal about it.
