From my nest in a cushy NJ suburb, what strikes me is what seems to be the growing percentage of incidents where murder or other crimes of violence have touched a minority athlete and his/her family.

Adding to the tragedy is, quite often, the athlete is finally coming into a serious amount of cash and an apparent route out of dangerous circumstances linked to environment, unsavory buddies etc. - only to have it all come crashing down.

It's everybody's problem (not just something that happens to someone else cross-town). Very sad.
