The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were without two of their biggest stars during Wednesday's training camp practice after both suffered minor injuries.
According to Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud, head coach Todd Bowles said All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs tweaked his hamstring while running on Wednesday and did not participate in practice. Defensive tackle Vita Vea also suffered an injury on Wednesday and was held out of practice as a precaution.
Neither injury is believed to be serious, and Bowles has previously described both players as day-to-day. Still, the Buccaneers have every reason to be cautious with two of the most important pieces of their roster this early in training camp.
Wirfs remains one of the NFL's premier offensive linemen after another dominant season in 2025. He earned a 92.7 overall Pro Football Focus grade while continuing to anchor Tampa Bay's offensive line and protect quarterback Baker Mayfield's blind side. Any absence for the All-Pro tackle is worth monitoring, even if it is expected to be short-term.
Vea's status also continues to draw attention as he works through both a minor injury and his ongoing holdout after requesting a trade earlier this offseason. The veteran defensive tackle reported to training camp but has yet to participate in practice while contract uncertainty remains.
With the Buccaneers still in the NFL's mandatory acclimation period before full-contact practices begin, the coaching staff is expected to take a conservative approach with both players. Tampa Bay's priority is having its veteran leaders healthy when preparations for the regular season begin in earnest, rather than rushing either player back onto the practice field.
