The biggest shock of the 2025 NFL Draft was the slide of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The son of Deion "Primetime" Sanders fell all the way to the fifth round of the draft despite some analysts predicting he would be a top-five pick.
Shedeur is the most well-known Sanders, but he wasn't the only one who came out for the 2025 draft.
Buffaloes DB Shilo Sanders also entered the process ...
And went undrafted before signing a free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles has been able to find diamonds in the rough at the DB position before. Adding Shilo to a secondary with Antoine Winfield Jr., and other stars in the defensive backfield could give Sanders the kind of coaching and leadership needed to succeed.
“I think he’s a good football player. He’s a heck of a tackler and he knows the game very well — he can see the game very well," Bowles said. "So, giving him a chance to play, we think he has a shot to help us from a safety standpoint and from a special teams standpoint. So I’m excited to get him in here and see how he moves. I saw him tackle all year. I saw him make plays. He’s a very smart player and he understands the game very well."
There's no guarantee Sanders will make the Buccaneers roster at the end of the preseason.
But the Buccaneers are in the business of locating underrated talent. And despite what can be said about Sanders and his shortcomings - that's part of being a UDFA - the colorful Colorado product has had plenty of success over his run in the Big 12 over the last two years.
Bowles also knows how to coach up unproven talent on defense. If he can do it for Sanders, it'll be just the latest example of that.
