Pewter Report reported some encouraging news from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' final OTA session, as rookie defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart participated in practice for the first time since being drafted.
Capehart, whom Tampa Bay selected in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, had been sidelined throughout most of the offseason program while recovering from wrist surgery. The former Clemson standout was unable to participate during rookie minicamp and spent much of the spring focused on rehabilitation rather than on-field work.
His appearance at OTAs marks an important step forward as he continues progressing toward full health ahead of training camp.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound defensive tackle was drafted to add depth and developmental upside to Tampa Bay's defensive line room. While the Buccaneers are expected to lean heavily on established veterans along the interior, Capehart will have an opportunity to compete for a rotational role once training camp begins.
Getting back on the practice field now is particularly important given the amount of time he missed during the spring. The additional reps will allow him to continue learning the defensive scheme, work alongside teammates, and prepare for the increased intensity of training camp.
With more than a month remaining before players report for camp, Capehart still has valuable time to continue his recovery and conditioning. For now, the most important development is that the Buccaneers' fifth-round pick is finally back on the field and participating in team activities after an injury-delayed start to his NFL career.
