Jenna Laine of ESPN highlighted one difficult portion of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' schedule entering 2026, including a matchup against the Carolina Panthers, which could be the Bucs' toughest stretch of the season.
The concern is less about Carolina alone and more about the timing surrounding the matchup. Tampa Bay’s schedule includes several physically demanding games clustered together, creating a stretch where depth and defensive consistency could become major factors.
That part of the calendar becomes especially important for a defense still integrating younger contributors. Players like Rueben Bain Jr. and Josiah Trotter are expected to handle meaningful snaps early, while veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone was brought in to help stabilize communication and leadership in the middle of the defense. He has been there in the trenches during previous deep seasons, so Anzalone will be an added advantage for the Bucs.
Carolina was never the dominant favorite to win the NFC South, not in 2025 or 2026; it's a toss-up among all four squads. The Panthers have continued rebuilding around younger offensive talent, making divisional games far less predictable than they were only a couple of seasons ago.
For Tampa Bay, surviving difficult stretches of the schedule may ultimately decide whether the Buccaneers remain in control of the NFC South race late into the season.
