One year after finding one of the biggest steals of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would no longer have the chance to select Bucky Irving.
In his latest 2024 NFL re-draft for CBS Sports, Zachary Pereles projected Irving to the Carolina Panthers with the 32nd overall pick, a massive jump from where the Buccaneers originally found the Oregon standout in the fourth round at No. 125 overall.
Pereles acknowledged that Irving's 2025 season wasn't as productive as his outstanding rookie campaign, but he believes that shouldn't overshadow what the running back accomplished during his first year in the NFL. Irving totaled 1,514 yards from scrimmage as a rookie, the sixth-most ever by a player selected in the fourth round or later, making him one of the best value picks in the entire draft class.
That rookie production immediately changed expectations for Tampa Bay's backfield. Irving emerged as a dynamic playmaker capable of impacting games as both a runner and receiver, rewarding the Buccaneers for taking a chance on him well after the draft's opening three rounds.
While injuries limited him during portions of the 2025 season, Irving still flashed the traits that made him such an effective rookie. His ability to create yards after contact, force missed tackles and contribute in the passing game remained evident whenever he was healthy enough to take the field.
Pereles' re-draft reflects just how dramatically Irving's value has changed over the last two seasons. Players selected on Day 3 rarely work their way into the first round of a re-draft, but Irving's rookie production was enough to convince CBS Sports that he would no longer last beyond the opening 32 selections.
For the Buccaneers, it's another reminder of the front office's ability to uncover talent outside the first round. Irving has already outperformed his original draft position, and if he returns to the form he showed as a rookie, he'll continue to be viewed as one of the biggest steals from the 2025 draft class.
