Ohio State took center stage Wednesday in Chicago at Big Ten Media Days, serving as yet another reminder of just how close the 2026 season has become. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes spent the day answering questions and previewing what is once again expected to be a championship-caliber campaign, and the attention surrounding the program remains more than justified.
Ohio State enters the fall with one of the most talented rosters in college football, and it will need every bit of that talent to navigate a demanding schedule. Still, the standard in Columbus has not changed. The expectations are as high as ever, and anything short of competing for another national title will feel like a disappointment.
Preseason camp is just around the corner, and while the on-field action will always be more exciting than a week of interviews and press conferences, Media Days at least signal that football is nearly back.
Buckle up. Ohio State’s 2026 season is almost here, and once again, the stakes could not be much higher.
Ohio State offers 2028 wide receiver
One of the more heavily discussed positions on the recruiting trail lately, wide receiver has continued to provide plenty of positive momentum for Ohio State. Cortez Hankton has worked tirelessly since taking over the room, and with elite talents already committed in both the 2028 and 2029 classes, the Buckeyes appear well positioned to continue their reign as the nation’s premier developer of receivers.
That said, there is always more work to be done. Ohio State already has Jett Harrison in the fold for 2028, but the staff remains focused on surrounding him with an impressive supporting cast before the cycle is complete.
Plenty of names are already under consideration, and a new one surfaced this week when the Buckeyes extended an offer to Georgia native John Matthews. The 6-foot, 175-pound athlete is ranked as the No. 388 player nationally and 56th best receiver in the 2028 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Matthews already holds double-digit offers, and while Ohio State may be the latest program to enter the mix, the Buckeyes almost certainly will not be the last. Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Tennessee are among the notable programs that have offered the three-star prospect, and it would not be surprising to see his ranking rise considerably in the months ahead.
A legitimate speedster who continues to command attention, Matthews has shown enough for Ohio State to make its interest known early. The next step will be getting him to Columbus, and a game-day visit this fall could provide the Buckeyes with an opportunity to make an even stronger impression.
Ohio State remains near the top of the list for several of its priority targets at receiver in the 2028 class, and the expectation is that the Buckeyes will ultimately take at least three players at the position. With Harrison already locked in, there are likely two spots left to fill.
Matthews is a name worth keeping tabs on moving forward.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound prospect from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who plays for Prolific Prep, is ranked as the No. 13 player nationally and No. 3 small forward in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. With more than 20 offers to his name, Jordan has now narrowed his recruitment to eight schools, and Ohio State remains firmly in the mix.
The Buckeyes are joined by Alabama, Kansas, UConn, Tennessee, USC, Vanderbilt, and Washington among Jordan’s finalists. There is still plenty of work left to be done against a loaded group of contenders, but making the initial cut is an encouraging sign for Jake Diebler and his staff.
Jordan appears ready to begin moving closer toward a decision, and Ohio State has to feel good about where it currently stands as his recruitment enters its next stage.
