Head coach Marco Sturm was able to return the Boston Bruins to the NHL Playoffs in his first year as the bench boss. His Burins out performed expectations in what was labeled a rebuilding year.
However, next season the Bruins will be held to a more Bostonian standard.
One week away from the 2026 NHL Draft, the hockey world thinks that the Bruins have a top-10 squad.
Boston earned the tenth ranking in ESPN's "Way too early" 2026-27 power rankings. The rankings were compiled by a panel of hockey commentators, analysts and reporters who filled out a 1-32 poll based on their predictions for next season.
ESPN believes Boston's season can be made or broken by its ability to recruit a top-six center before next year.
"A decision will be made in the coming weeks on veteran forward Viktor Arvidsson, who was a key part of the Bruins' forward group this season. The 33-year-old is a UFA and has been linked to many other NHL teams in free agency as a solution to their top-six woes," the article read.
"The Bruins have $15.4 million to use on their offseason wish list, which could include another veteran center as incoming rookie James Hagens develops his game at the NHL level."
After Thursday's trade, the Bruins have nine draft picks to leverage as potential trade bait to acquire a top-line center.
