One Boston Bruins forward had a standout performance at the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland on Saturday.
Lukas Reichel scored three goals and added an assist for a four-point game against Austria. Germany beat Austria 6-2 on Saturday afternoon, and Reichel’s second goal was the game-winner. Ahead of the game, Reichel had three points (1-2–3) in the tournament, coming off a three-point showing (2-1–3) at the Olympics.
He played on the first line alongside Josh Samanski and Frederik Tiffles. He also played on the power play, where he scored two goals.
After a scoreless first period, Austria took a 1-0 lead 2:22 into the period, and Reichel scored 66 seconds later. He collected a nifty backhand feed from Samanski and beat Austrian goaltender Atte Tolvanen high-glove side.

Germany took a 2-1 lead before the end of the second period. Reichel had the secondary assist on Samanski’s goal to give Germany the lead.
Germany went on a power play in the third period. Reichel went back and forth with Moritz Seider before unloading a shot that beat Tolvanen high glove side again. Germany had a 3-1 lead, and Reichel already had three points.

Six minutes later, on a 5-on-3, Reichel parked himself outside of the goal crease. Tiffels took a shot that hit Tolvanen’s glove and landed on Reichel’s stick.

It was Reichel’s first hat trick while playing for Team Germany, and naturally, he was named the best player of the game for his national team. Germany plays Great Britain on Monday at 2:20 PM to close their round robin schedule. They are 2-0-1-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and sit fourth in Group A.
Reichel now leads all Bruins skaters playing at the World Championships with seven points (4-3–7) through six games.
