Chris Shula and Mike LaFleur aren’t the only Los Angeles Rams assistant coaches that could draw interest around the NFL this hiring cycle. Pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase is another name to watch.

The Cleveland Browns, who fired Kevin Stefanski as their head coach, have requested to interview Scheelhaase for their head coaching vacancy. Scheelhaase, 35, is a rising coach on Sean McVay’s staff and drew interest as an offensive coordinator candidate last year.

He interviewed with the Buccaneers and Jaguars last offseason when they were looking for new offensive coordinators, but he was passed over for other candidates. The Rams then promoted him to pass game coordinator, keeping him on McVay’s staff for one more year at least.

McVay’s assistants have been popular head coaching hires over the years and there’s a chance another will get an opportunity this offseason – whether it’s Shula, LaFleur or Scheelhaase.

Shula has already received interest from both the Titans and Dolphins, with the Browns being Scheelhaase’s first head coaching interview.
