The Cleveland Browns had a number conundrum on their hands after wide receiver KC Concepcion showed up to the NFLPA Rookie Premiere wearing the No. 1. However, the Browns have since confirmed that the first round wideout will, in fact, be wearing that jersey number instead of his originally assigned No. 17.
As a result, the number rumors surrounding running back Quinshon Judkins then disappeared. This then raised another flag as rookie linebacker Justin Jefferson had also already been assigned No. 10, Judkins' current number. All of those issues have now been resolved as the Browns get set to start Offseason Training Activities today.
With Concepcion taking the number 1, this left Judkins to take back his old No. 10. There are a couple of reasons why this could be the case. The first reason: Concepcion has first round money, and Judkins does not. If it came down to a bidding war between the two for the number, it's a war won by Concepcion. However, if the Browns favor seniority and Judkins did have a claim to the number; perhaps the cost of buying out all of the remaining jerseys for sale with the No. 10 in circulation, which is the NFL rule, could have proven to be too costly for Judkins.
Now, with Judkins retaining the No. 10, Jefferson had to find a new number. Just rotating through numbers at this point, Jefferson then took the No. 17, which was Concepcion's original number assigned after he was drafted. This number was last worn by Cleveland native and current free agent linebacker Jerome Baker.
