New Cleveland Brownsdefensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg has made his first move as the man in charge of the defensive staff. And his first order of business was to promote a member of former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's staff. Brandon Lynch, who was the cornerbacks coach under Schwartz, has been promoted to defensive backs coach and passing game specialist under Rutenberg.

CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones was first to report. Jones also dropped a nugget of information that Lynch was highly pursued by other teams around the NFL this offseason. Here is the full quote:

"Lynch, considered a future DC candidate, was pursued by multiple teams this offseason. The respected coach stays in Cleveland with the new coaching regime."

This is also particularly interesting, because passing game specialist was the position that Rutenberg held under Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich to build his defensive coordinator resume. If Lynch wants a clear path at becoming a defensive coordinator, then this is not a bad seat to settle into under Rutenberg, who is considered to have a "PhD-level" knowledge of backend coverage play.

We'll see how much of Schwartz's staff Rutenberg opts to retain, but he's off to a clean start here.
