New Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg has big shoes to fill after replacing Jim Schwartz, who led the defense to a lot of success the past three seasons. Rutenberg is a first-time defensive coordinator but is well-respected and well-liked around the NFL.
He worked under new Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh in a couple of different spots, and Saleh had some nice things to say about Rutenberg at the NFL Scouting Combine. Saleh called Rutenberg an "outstanding human", that he will bring the juice, and that he is elite from a defensive pass game standpoint.
Saleh also mentioned that if veteran defensive coordinator Gus Bradley had not taken the job with the Titans, he had planned to hire Rutenberg to be the DC in Tennessee. That's high praise from one of the better defensive minds in the NFL, Robert Saleh. Plenty of coaches around the NFL believe the Browns made a smart hire to bring in an up-and-coming defensive mind.
