Overnight, Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger quickly became the best player on the Cleveland defense.

When the Browns dealt Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams and welcomed in Jared Verse to town, Cleveland's defense lost a lot in production, but gained a lot in youth and excitement for the future.

The new core of the Cleveland defense is Verse in year three, Schwesinger in year two, Mason Graham in year two, and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in year one. At every level, there is a budding star, and the future certainly looks bright and fun in Cleveland.

However, there is a fair question to ask Schwesinger about what his thoughts were on the Myles trade. His answer is pretty much exactly what you would expect from Schwesinger, who is as mature a leader as you can get.

When asked about his thoughts, he went straight to saying the Browns are getting a great player. He then added that, "at the end of the day, we focus on the 11 that we are putting out on defense." He finished by saying how excited he is to work with Verse.

It is pretty cool for Schwesinger and the Browns as they now have the last two Defensive Rookie of the Year awards and have them for several years to come. Schwesinger and Verse share a similar motor and similar leadership abilities.

Together, those two have quickly become two cornerstones for the Cleveland Browns defense and franchise at large.

When you make a deal like the Browns did, you only do it if you have enough of a foundation left behind so that it doesn't completely blow up everything. With Schwesinger and some of the other young stars on the Browns, they felt like they were stable enough to deal one of the best defenders ever away.

I tend to agree with that sentiment.

Schwesinger's Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign looked like this: 16 games, 156 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits, three passes defensed, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. He was a stat sheet stuffer and was truly one of the great players in the entire league last year.

Schwesinger will certainly miss playing behind Garrett, but he is focused on what is ahead and not worried about what lies in the rearview.
