The Browns' newest cornerstone pass rusher is the second-highest-ranked Browns player in the entire NFL. In the yearly NFL Top-100, voted on by the players, Cleveland pass rusher Jared Verse slots in comfortably within the Top-100 at No. 35.
For the most part, almost all Browns fans have not only accepted the trade of Myles Garrett, but have grown to like it and be excited about the future with Verse.
Verse is certainly not the same player that Garrett was. He is a different type of pass rusher and is not quite as dominant. He could certainly get within the Garrett universe between the white lines, but that would be a cherry on top of the cake.
Not only is Verse a different player than Garrett in between the white lines, but he is a total 180-degree difference outside the white lines. What Garrett lacked as a leader, Verse makes up for in spades. He is going to bring a new attitude and demand that a new culture gets established. That is sorely needed.
Without going off on too much of a tangent, the bottom line is that Verse is going to be such an amazing addition to the Browns team.
Slotting in as the No. 35 overall player in the NFL is very impressive. For whatever it may be worth, after Garrett's second season, he was ranked as the 49th best player in the 2019 NFL Top-100. So if we are comparing apples to apples, Verse is a little further along than Garrett was early in his career.
Now, again, it is a dangerous and unfair idea to compare these two one-to-one, but it is going to happen for the remainder of Verse's career as long as he is in Cleveland.
For the immediate future, Verse has come to Cleveland with his eyes wide open and the perfect attitude to join a very young but ascending team. As the youth movement continues to sweep the Browns' roster, a leader like Verse is necessary if this group is going to find any semblance of success during his tenure.
It may not happen right away, but as long as Verse is playing his ball in Cleveland, he will be a plus addition to the team, and maybe one day he will be at the top of the NFL's Top-100 list, just like his predecessor.
