One Cleveland Brown Lands on the NFL's Top 25 Under 25
The focal point of the biggest trade in recent NFL history was Jared Verse. For several reasons, including the fact that he rushes the quarterback relentlessly and he is still a young player with a ton of room to grow.
Verse was the key piece that got Cleveland off of "stuck" and allowed them to pull the trigger on what is going to be a generational deal that will send ripple effects throughout the history of the NFL.
Cleveland's return of several draft picks and Jared Verse is probably one of the only fair transactions that they could have drawn up. On Tuesday, the NFL released its Top 25 players under the age of 25, and Verse is the lone Cleveland Brown on that list, for now.
Through two seasons, Verse has logged 124 total tackles and 12.0 sacks in two years. He has 22.0 tackles for loss, and while his sack numbers are not high, he has 45 quarterback hits. He is around the quarterback, just not finishing the job.
Verse enters his third year in the NFL as a 25-year-old exactly. He needed all of his college years to prove what he was, and the result was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2024 draft. Now, he comes to Cleveland with a lot of potential but also a lot of pressure to fill the shoes of Garrett.
Not only is Verse the only Cleveland Brown on the roster, but he is one of just two players in the AFC North to land on the list. The other is probably the best safety in the league, Kyle Hamilton. While Verse is entering his third season, Hamilton is actually going into his fifth because he only needed three years at Notre Dame before coming out.
Regardless, the Browns have their hands on one of the great young talents in the league, and he needs to be that way for Cleveland. The reality is that the Browns are putting a lot of faith and pressure on him to perform.
So far, he has shown everything and more that Cleveland was looking for. Now, when training camp kicks off in a couple of weeks, and the season inches closer, he needs to be the dominant force on the edge of the line of scrimmage that the Browns have to replace with Garrett's departure.
