FIRST TEAM​


Ace Aguila, P, West Broward junior: Aguila kept opposing teams in check, leading the 21-14 Bobcats with a 1.53 ERA. Aguila posted a 4-2 record with 65 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings.

Andrew Alvarez, IF, St. Thomas Aquinas senior: Alvarez helped form the power-hitting core of the Raiders’ state championship lineup, mashing 13 home runs — trailing only teammate Zachary Malvasio — while hitting .382 with a 1.376 OPS.

Brady Buxbaum, IF, St. Thomas Aquinas junior: Buxbaum was another source of power in the Raiders’ prolific lineup. The USF commit led the team with a .444 batting average and launched nine home runs, posting a 1.389 OPS.

Miguel Colmenares, IF, Flanagan junior: The Falcons’ shortstop was their top threat at the plate, leading the team in batting average (.371), home runs (nine) and RBIs (20).

Nick Diaz, OF, Stoneman Douglas senior: Diaz helped anchor the Eagles’ lineup as they rolled to their fifth consecutive state title. Diaz hit .387 with four home runs and 1.112 OPS. Diaz, a College of Charleston signee, had 11 stolen bases, as well.

Bennett Gary, OF, Stoneman Douglas senior: Gary was a key part of Stoneman Douglas’ lineup, notching a team-leading .402 batting average and pacing the team with four home runs. He also had 10 stolen bases.

Nico Sabatino, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas junior: Sabatino had a breakout season, batting .432 with a 1.285 OPS and eight home runs. Sabatino also added 17 stolen bases.

Daniel Tartaglia, P, Stoneman Douglas senior: Along with co-player of the year Gio Rojas, Tartaglia anchored the Eagles’ staff. The southpaw went 8-0 with a 0.95 ERA and struck out 92 batters in 59 innings, walking only seven.

Easton Viveros, OF, Deerfield Beach junior: Viveros was one of Broward’s premier sluggers, tying for third in the county with nine home runs. He hit .486 with a 1.577 OPS and 32 RBIs. He also pitched, going 5-2 with four saves and a 1.64 ERA in 38 1/3 innings.

Juan Cerra, OF, Archbishop McCarthy senior: Cerra paced the Mavericks with eight home runs and a 1.262 OPS. Cerra hit .404 — second-best on the team — and stole four bases.

Gabriel Gener, P, Cypress Bay senior: Gener was the ace of the Lightning staff. The 6-foot-2 southpaw went 6-2 with a save while posting a 1.69 ERA. Gener struck out 75 batters in 58 innings while walking just 14.

Danny Machado, IF, Archbishop McCarthy senior: Machado was Archbishop McCarthy’s top hitter, batting .442 and hitting five home runs. Machado was also a threat on the base paths, stealing 16 bases.

Keniel Marrero, IF, South Broward senior: Marrero was a threat in the Bulldogs’ lineup, hitting .458 with a 1.307 OPS. The senior infielder had five home runs and 21 RBIs. The College of Central Florida signee also stole 22 bases.

J.C. Martinez, OF, Taravella senior: Martinez, a North Florida signee, had a dominant senior season, hitting .461 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs. Martinez had a 1.354 OPS.

Todd Fitz-Gerald, Stoneman Douglas: Fitz-Gerald continued his run of excellence at Stoneman Douglas, leading the team to a 31-2 record and its fifth straight state championship. The Eagles are ranked second in the nation — behind Bradenton IMG Academy — by MaxPreps.

Joey Wardlow, St. Thomas Aquinas: Under Wardlow, the Raiders rolled to a 29-6-1 record and the fourth state championship in program history. St. Thomas is ranked 13th nationally.
