Brooke Henderson pitched in twice for eagle during the third round of the Amundi Evian to card a 7-under 64.
The former champion sits seven shots back of leader Haeran Ryu, who opened up a three-shot lead with a record-setting round of 11-under 60 at Evian Resort Golf Club, the lowest round in major championship history. First-round leader Aki Iwai sits alone in second.
"I think leaders will be hard to catch because they're both playing very well right now," said Henderson. "Haeran having just won a major two weeks ago, obviously her game is very sharp, and she knows how to win.
"I think she'll have a great day and it will make it tough for all of us. But it'll be fun."
Henderson, who sits in a share of third with another major champion, Mao Saigo, is 12 under for the tournament after rounds of 67-70-64. Her pitch-ins came on two par 5s, Nos. 7 and 15. She added six more birdies, including three in a row on Nos. 10-12, and three bogeys.
She had only 23 putts on the day.
This marks her cousin Ryan's first trip to Evian-les-Bains, France. He played the course on a video game to prepare for his caddie duties. Henderson's older sister and longtime caddie, Brittany, welcomed her first child hours before Brooke teed off in the first round of the KPMG Women's PGA, naming her after the site of Brooke's first major win, Sahalee.
Brooke tied for third two weeks ago at Hazeltine, where the steady Ryu broke through with her first major title.
"It's just such an exciting and wonderful time for my family," said Henderson. "I was really fortunate to be able to see [Sahalee] last week and then I'm able to go home next week to see her, too."
