After a disastrous final minute of the first half, the Buffalo Bills did get the ball to start the second half against the Denver Broncos. Down 20-10, they would need to put together a solid opening half drive to keep the momentum from continuing in the Broncos direction.
On the second play from scrimmage, Nik Bonitto flew past his man to force a strip-sack on Josh Allen where the Broncos would recover for the third takeaway of the game for Denver.
RJ Harvey was nearly stopped for a negative play on a quick pass from Bo Nix outside, but he broke the tackle and gained six yards instead. He would add another yard on an inside run that didn’t gain much. A toss outside to Jaleel McLaughlin went nowhere, but Sean Payton decided to go for it on fourth and four. They’d try to draw the Bills offsides, but ultimately take the delay of game and the field goal to extend their lead to 13-points.
Broncos 23, Bills 10.
Devon Key made a great special teams stop to set the Bills up at their own 27-yard line. James Cook dropped a swing pass outside on first down too. Alex Singleton bit inside on the next play to allow Dalton Kincaid wide open for a 25-yard gain to get the Bills across midfield.
They would score on a quick pass to Keon Coleman from 10 yards out later in the drive to make a game of it.
Broncos 23, Bills 17.
Needing to shift momentum back their way, Nix and the Broncos began their next drive with an empty set. Nix was pressured immediately and had to throw it away. RJ Harvey picked up five yards on second down, but then disaster struck. Bo Nix was looking for a short pass over the middle to Evan Engram but a defensive lineman jumped to pick it off to set the Bills up in scoring range.
Ja’Quan McMillian came up with a big four yard tackle for a loss on an attempted screen pass to James Cook. Then P.J. Locke took the ball right back for the Broncos with a huge interception on Josh Allen to shift momentum again.
The Broncos take over right around where Bo Nix threw the interception, so its like it all never happened. On third and long, the Broncos were able to scheme Marvin Mims Jr. open in the flat where he blew by everyone for a nice gain of 20 yards.
The Broncos flirted with field goal range, but the Bills turned up the heat in the pass rush to force a Jeremy Crawshaw punt instead.
