Story update I: After this post was scheduled, Denver reached an agreement on a three-year contract with veteran tight end Adam Trautman.
Story update II: Denver is restructuring guard Quinn Meinerz's contract, a move that could free up $11.7 million in salary cap space. That could very easily cover the cap hits of Strnad and Trautman in 2026. View our original post below.
The Denver Broncos have already begun their free agency signings.
Denver gave tenders to all four of their exclusive rights free agents, placed a second-round tender on restricted free agent cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian, gave a two-year contract extension to offensive lineman Alex Palczewski and re-signed linebacker Justin Strnad to a three-year contract.
The exact details of the Palczewski and Strnad contracts are not yet known, so their salary cap hits for 2026 are unclear. Palcho's deal is worth an average of $4.75 million per year (but that's probably not his exact cap hit this year). Strnad's deal averages $6 million per season (again, his cap hit could be lower than that in Year 1).
Before accounting for the Palczewski or Strnad deals, OverTheCap.com estimates the Broncos have about $24.47 million in cap space. It's easy to imagine them still having $15 million or more still available, and the club could create a lot more cap space through simple restructures.
We'll have a better idea of the team's remaining cap space once the Palcho and Strnad contracts are known. Only the "top 51" contracts count against the team's cap during the offseason, so the ERFA tender contracts should have minimal impact on the cap.
