Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins is doing his very best to live up to the pinky-promise of health he made to the press at the beginning of August.
Dobbins left practice early on Monday, leaving many to wonder if he was injured in a serious way before the season even began. Broncos coach Sean Payton said after practice that Dobbins suffered a soft-tissue injury and would be "fine."
Dobbins was back in pads and practicing on Tuesday, and had a message for Denver media during individual drills. "Hey, I been in the league for seven years," Dobbins said after flashing a thumbs-up to the media. "Sometimes you ain't gonna have [inaudible]. Sometimes. Sometimes. Y'all don't got to make the rumor."
Dobbins is coming off a Lisfranc injury which ended his season in 2025, but has vowed to be the best running back in the league in 2026.
"I know a lot of people say, 'Oh, he's only good for the first 10 weeks of the season,' I'll be in the top three (in rushing) for the first 10 weeks," Dobbins said after Denver's first training camp practice in late July. "Forget about the top three... I'm going to be No. 1. I'm going to keep it there for the whole year."
Dobbins looks to continue to stay healthy, and the Broncos will try to navigate a three-horse backfield, rotating between second-year running back RJ Harvey and rookie Jonah Coleman. Denver coach Sean Payton has said starters will play in preseason, but it remains to be seen how much work Dobbins will get before the regular season.
