Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at 10th-year veteran tight end Evan Engram, No. 1.

Before the Broncos: Engram (6-3, 240 pounds) entered the NFL as a first-round pick (23rd overall) with the New York Giants in the 2017 NFL draft. He spent the first five years of his career with the Blue Gang, hauling in 262 passes for 2,828 yards and 16 touchdowns in 65 games played. He also rushed for one score during that time.

After his rookie contract was completed in New York, Engram signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he remained from 2022-24. In three seasons and 45 games (43 regular season games and two playoff games) with the Jaguars, Engram caught 246 passes for 2,218 yards and 10 touchdowns. After the 2024 season, Engram was courted by the Denver Broncos in free agency for nearly 24 hours before finally signing a two-year, $23 million deal.

Broncos tenure: Engram was brought in as a "Joker" in Sean Payton's offensive scheme, someone who quarterback Bo Nix could look to when he was in trouble. Engram showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season: catching a crucial touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the Broncos in receiving during a Sunday Night Football thriller against the Washington Commanders, and becoming just the second tight end in NFL history to catch more than 40 passes in his first nine seasons. Although Engram was third on the team in receptions, he wasn't as involved as his contract indicated he should be.

Chance to make the 53-man roster: Nearly certain. Engram is set to be the Broncos' top tight end target going into his contract year with the team. Engram has hinted that he wanted to be more involved in 2025, and after good friend Davis Webb was promoted to offensive coordinator, the tight end might get his wish in 2026. Engram is entering the final year of his contract and Denver just drafted two tight ends, so while he seems likely to stick around this fall, Engram's outlook with the Broncos is uncertain beyond this season.
