Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year safety and special teams ace JL Skinner, No. 34.

Before the Broncos: Skinner (6-4, 220 pounds) was, well, a Bronco, of the Boise State variety from 2019-22. In four years and 44 games with college football's Broncos, Skinner made 208 total tackles (133 solo, 75 assisted, 8.5 tackles for loss), seven interceptions, 15 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. After college, Skinner was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the sixth round (183rd overall) of the 2023 NFL draft.

Broncos tenure: In Skinner's rookie year, he hardly got on the field. However, in 2024 and 2025, Skinner became a vital part of the Denver special teams unit, playing 79 and 68 percent of special teams snaps, respectively. Skinner made 21 total tackles (12 solo, nine assisted) and recovered two fumbles over the past two seasons. Skinner has one year left on his rookie contract, and is slated to be a free agent after the 2026 campaign.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Likely. Skinner has proven to be a special teams ace, and partners well with 2025 All-Pro special teamer Devon Key. In a contract year, Skinner has all the possibility to dictate his own fate this season, whether it be with Denver, or with another team.
