Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at seventh-year running back J.K. Dobbins, No. 27.
Before the Broncos: Dobbins (5-12, 212 pounds) began his foray into the NFL when he was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens out of Ohio State. It's no secret that Dobbins has struggled significantly with his health, suffering season-ending injuries in three of his first six pro seasons. When healthy, Dobbins is a valuable rushing and receiving threat, racking up 429 rushing attempts for 2,252 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, along with 59 receptions for 330 yards and one receiving touchdown in four years with the Ravens and one season with the Los Angeles Chargers. After a year in L.A., Dobbins entered free agency prior to the start of the 2025 season, waiting until the second wave of free agency to sign with the Denver Broncos.
Broncos tenure: Dobbins made the most of his first season with the Broncos, starting nine of the 10 games he played in during 2025, leading Denver in rushing yards with 772 while adding four touchdowns. Ten games into the campaign, Dobbins suffered a Lisfranc injury, which sidelined him for the rest of the year. However, if Denver had made it to the Super Bowl, there was a high likelihood Dobbins would have played in the game. Despite the injury, Dobbins re-signed with the Broncos on a two-year, $20 million contract which locks him with the team through the 2027 season.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Projected RB1. Dobbins will lead the Broncos' running back room with RJ Harvey and rookie Jonah Coleman behind him. To keep Dobbins healthy throughout the year, offensive coordinator Davis Webb may cycle the backs to keep everyone fresh. A healthy Dobbins can make a healthy Broncos offense complete.
